Merger of Town Forum and Business Group
Thursday 1st April 2021
Lostwithiel Town Forum is merging with Lostwithiel Business Group. The following statement has been issued by Lostwithiel Town Forum.
Since it was established in 2001 Lostwithiel Town Forum has worked to promote the social, economic and environmental enhancement of Lostwithiel through projects related to grant funding or the encouragement of community activities.
Many members of the community have been involved in the last 20 years, either devoting many years to committee roles or taking part in individual projects. Several organisations emerged from the Forum's activities and have gone on to become major contributors to the success of the community of Lostwithiel - Lostwithiel Business Group, Lost in Film and Lostwithiel U3A to name just three. Many smaller organisations have also benefited from grant funding raised through the Forum - Lost in Play, Giggles Baby Group, Lostwithiel Skatepark, Cool Kids Group, LostFest, Lostwithiel Royals, Lost in Song, and Covid-19 support for Lostwithiel. Lottery funded projects were completed in relation to Shirehall Moor, the Town Heritage Trail and Medieval Bridge. Latterly Town Forum members have also contributed to The Neighbourhood Plan and Edgcumbe House Working Parties.
The Platform Meeting Room on Lostwithiel Station was renovated by the Forum and became a well used meeting room for many small groups within the town. Sadly, given the costs and responsibilities associated with this operation, it is no longer viable for the Forum to run this. Another organisation within the town is in discussion with GWR about the possibility of taking on the lease.
Like so many voluntary organisations it has proved difficult to attract enough volunteer effort over recent years to run the Town Forum. Many of the issues it was set up to address 20 years ago have been resolved or are now the responsibility of other bodies which work specifically on single issues. As a result it has been decided to merge the remaining activities of the Town Forum with the Lostwithiel Business Group. The specific issues surrounding transport and the environment where work is ongoing will continue to be driven forward by existing Forum members, but under the organisation of the Business Group.
