Lostwithiel Community Centre Upgrade
Thursday 19th September 2024
The Community Centre trustees have a plan for a £1m project to modernise the 40-year-old Lostwithiel Community Centre (LCC) to improve energy efficiency and access throughout.
Additionally much needed new classes for digital, literacy and numeracy for both the community and hinterland will be introduced, creating new jobs, emboldening life skills, creating opportunities for all ages, genders, religions, and capabilities.
Initial funding of £15,840 from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Fund has been received and will be used to commission architects’ drawings and plans for the redesign and modernisation of this much loved and well used community building.
A building survey in May 2022 by a Chartered Building Surveyor identified both external and internal building fabric requires attention due to age, wear and tear, weather damage, vandalism and to meet modern safety standards.
Key aims are to:
- Improve energy efficiency by replacing the ceiling, re-lagging the roof void, replacing all wooden frame single glazed windows and wooden entry doors
- Redesign entrances to be accessible
- Reimagine the internal space to radically improve the existing site layout providing significantly greater flexibility, providing more classes, with extended electrical services enabling delivery of digital and online teaching services.
- Install a small lift for disabled access to the first floor classrooms
