Grant received to renovate Edgcumbe House and Guildhall

Monday 11th November 2024

Lostwithiel Town Council has received just under £200K  (£199,101) to renovate Edgcumbe House and The Guildhall

Both Edgcumbe House and the upper floor of the Guildhall have been closed to the public for many years.  This project aims to repurpose and enhance these important local buildings through a number of improvements.

The Guildhall will see the installation of a toilet, a small kitchen area, provision of a tracked wheelchair for disabled access to the first floor and upgrading heating and lighting to improve energy efficiency.  The project will allow the purchase of furniture, the installation of a hearing loop, Wi-Fi and multi-media presentation facilities. This will provide the ability to create opportunities for event hire, and establish a unique cultural space for seminars, awards ceremonies, and council functions. Outside there will be the introduction of planters with shrubs and flowers.

Edgcumbe House will see rewiring and the installation of energy efficient heating and lighting, and a new accessible toilet with baby changing facilities. There will be hot- desking and meeting room spaces for hire, complete with Wi-Fi, induction loop, and multi-media presentation facilities.

The relocation of the Town Council offices to the ground floor of Edgcumbe House  will improve public access to its services.

The Lostwithiel Museum office will be relocated to an improved space on the first floor. Outside, there will be a ramped access from Fore Street and improvements to the rear of the building.

The project will create spaces for exhibitions, workshops, heritage activities, as well as providing enhanced public access to the historic Guildhall and Mayors Parlour. It will also see a calendar of cultural activities created.

The project will create a number of volunteering opportunities and community engagement in focus groups, to guide future use of the buildings.
