Coulson Park play area is set to be improved with new equipment worth up to £40,000.

The town council and fundraising group Lost in Play have announced that the contract has been awarded to playground provider specialist HAGS-SMP.

Lost In Play raised £17,500 and the council contributed the remainder.

A planning application will be submitted to Cornwall Council shortly and if it is approved, the work is expected to be carried out this autumn.

When firms tendering for the work displayed their proposals Surrey firm HAGS-SMP's design was the clear winner in a public vote, but its plans were £5,000 over budget and it went back to the drawing board, coming up with a larger play area suitable for children up to 8.

Mayor Pam Jarrett said: "I'm delighted we've reached this point. Coulson Park's play area has been in discussion for many years and this is a good result.

"An enormous amount of thanks must go to Lost In Play for all their hard work and determination and also to others including councillors who have put time and energy into making this a reality."

"I'd also like to thank Sandra Harris, our clerk, who has come in on her days off to ensure everything was in place. I can't wait to see children playing on the new equipment and look forward to taking my granddaughter along."
