Annual Flu Jabs available in October / Early November

Sunday 6th September 2020

The following information was recently published on the Lostwithiel Medical Practice website

Fight flu early with vaccine 141020-M-IY869-027

Lostwithiel Medical Practice is organising annual influenza vaccination on:  Wednesdays:  7th October, 14th October, 21st October, 28th October and 11th November 2020

The main clinics will take place in the Scout Hut, opposite the surgery main entrance in the town’s car park.    The early start is for those who work and would like to have their flu vaccination first thing in the morning.   If attending later, it would be much appreciated if patients could be guided by the timetable below please depending on surname

Any one who works, any surname:    7.00 am   -    8.00 am
                                   A      -     G                8.00 am   -    9.30 am
                                   H       -     P               9.30 am    -  11.00 am
                                   Q      -     Z              11.00 am    -  12.00 noon

There are again two different vaccines recommended:  QIVc for patients aged 65 years of age and over as at 30.9.20 and QIVe for those aged 18 to 64 years “at risk”, that is to say patients with asthma, diabetes or heart disease.    Carers and pregnancy also qualify as eligible for the vaccine.

The aim is to run these clinics (a) with safe social distancing and there will not be the customary teas and coffees this year and (b) not to have additional catch-up clinics in the surgery building afterwards.

Arrangements for child ‘flu vaccinations will be publicised later.    Patients are encouraged to look on the NHS Choices website for information about the vaccines,

Do not attend the clinic if they or anyone else in their household have Covid-19 symptoms and be aware that queues may form due to social distancing.   It would also be helpful if suitable clothing with short sleeves could be worn to ensure the nurses have easy access to upper arms to avoid even longer delays.

With regard to the Government's ambition to extend the vaccination programme to include the over 50s regardless of risk status, Lostwithiel Medical Practice is awaiting further advice and will be advertising additional arrangements when these are known; which will not be before mid-November.
