Lostwithiel and Pleyber Christ Twinning Association

Lostwithiel is twinned with Pleyber Christ, a small town not far from the picturesque port of Roscoff in Brittany, France. There are about 30 towns in Cornwall twinned with a town in Brittany and we are one of the biggest, most active groups. Lostwithiel and Pleyber-Christ are now celebrating a historic 45 years of twinning and some deep and longstanding friendships have been made.

There is no requirement to be able to speak to French, we have members of all abilities.  Every year, twinners from the two towns get together for a weekend, one year in Brittany and the following year in Cornwall. We stay at each other’s homes and meet up as a group for trips and visits. In 2024 we went to Pleyber-Christ in May, and in 2025, the Pleyberiens will be coming here. We do sightseeing, take part in local activities, visit places of interest and each visit includes a party night with welcome drinks and a shared meal followed by music and dancing.

During the rest of the year, we hold fundraising events in Lostwithiel to host our visitors. Look out for us, and don’t hesitate to come and join in. Everyone is welcome - both the Cornish and Breton groups are very diverse with members of all ages from 0 to over 80. Our aim is build friendships and enjoy ourselves, so there is always something for everyone. Below are some of the things our members appreciate about twinning. If you are interested, or have any questions, please get in touch.

    • The cultural exchange; a celebration of differences, similarities and shared interests with our friends in Brittany
    • The increasingly rare opportunity to mix in a multi-generational environment
    • The opportunity for families, single or elderly people, in fact anyone, to travel and stay abroad in a supported environment with people they know
    • Getting to know members from both communities, building relationships over time and watching younger members grow up together
    • The way fundraising events and the weekends spent hosting and travelling together helps us get to know each other and contributes to friendships in our own community as well as abroad
    • A relatively low cost, activity packed holidays in France
    • Learning about France, sharing French food, wine and ‘joie de vivre’!
