The Duchy of Cornwall is one of the largest and oldest landed estates in Britain.

The Duchy’s total area is in the region of 135,000 acres in 22 counties with much of the land holding concentrated in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, Devon and the West Country. The Duchy was created in 1337 by Edward III for his son, Prince Edward (the Black Prince). A charter ruled that each future Duke of Cornwall would be the eldest surviving son of the monarch and heir to the throne.
